The unique patented wave design uses natural convection to enhance fan cooling. This stand has low power consumption via your laptop's USB port with no bulky power adapters. If you own a laptop, you know all about heat. Because today's notebooks rely on fast processors to do the job, they generate a lot of heat, with much of it landing directly in your lap. Some laptops can have a "normal" operating temperature as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit! Not only is that unsafe and uncomfortable, it can also wear your laptop down, cause it to crash unexpectedly, and reduce its overall life expectancy.
Twice the Cooling Power, Half the Consumption The single high-capacity fan, powered by a USB port on your laptop, sits in the middle of the cooling stand, and hot air is channeled out to the left and right sides of your laptop. The result is heat dissipation that's equal to a two-fan solution but that uses less than half the power. And because the fan is USB-powered, you won't have any bulky batteries or adapters (which can also both add heat!) to weigh you down. You simply place your laptop on the stand, pull the USB cable out of the convenient storage compartment, and plug it into your computer. The stand will take care of the rest. Computing in Comfort and Style Unlike the industrial gray and metallic appearance of other cooling stands, the Belkin Laptop Cooling Stand offers an attractive, gently sloped look that you'll be proud to show off as you work. The stand's thin profile means that you can easily slide the stand into your notebook bag as you travel from meeting to meeting, or café to café. And weighing a mere 22 ounces, you'll hardly notice that it's in your bag. Customer ReviewsCheap -- works but keeps falling apart and buzzes Review date: 2008-11-18 Rating: 6 out of 10 This cooling stand does its job but it is poorly constructed and badly designed. I use it only in an office so it has not been mis-treated. Its power socket has come loose twice (the second time I epoxied it in) and the fan assembly began to buzz loudly on start-up about a month after I bought it. Cleaning the fan, blowing it all out, has not fixed it. A sharp rap on the table (lifting assembly up and rapping it down) causes it to work quietly the rest of the day. At $20, it offers my hot laptop good protection, and noticeably cools it (compared to unplugging it and feeling the laptop 10 minutes later) but when it finally dies I won't get another one from Belkin, that's for sure. Mixed Feelings Review date: 2008-11-17 Rating: 6 out of 10 A bit noisy then I would have expected. Also, it does not fit my laptop too well. Check well with the dimentions before getting it. Great fit for a 15" Macbook Pro Review date: 2008-11-13 Rating: 8 out of 10 Picked up one of these at Costco today for a bargain, and will be using it to replace a non-fan folding targus unit I have been using for years. Macbook Pros get really hot around the back of the case, and I have heard that this can dramatically reduce battery life. The fan is obviously noisier than with no fan, but I would call it somewhat quieter than a typical laptop fan on "full cycle" but noisier than a laptop internal fan when in idle mode. (e.g. somewhere in the normal range of the noise a typical laptop makes). If you don't typically "max out" the CPU and processing capabilities of your laptop, you may find this fan (or any fan) adds a lot of noise to what you are used to. Good Product that Works Review date: 2008-11-11 Rating: 8 out of 10 This review is for using Belkin F5L001 Laptop Cooling Stand with a 15" MacBook Pro. Results on other machine may vary. I have used this daily for about a month now. I give this product 4 stars... It works well as long as it's not in a hot environment (nothing short of a mini air conditioner would work then). It effectively cools my MacBook Pro. I run XGR (X Resource Graph) to monitor the temperature across the 6 sensors in the MacBook Pro and I easily achieve at least a 10ºF drop in temperature across each of them. Most of the time I get better than a 10ºF drop. It depends on the room temperature. The fan 'floats' in it's mount and can be jarred. When this happens it will make noise. Just tilt or lightly tap the unit to reset the fan and the fan will operate quietly again. No big deal. When operating correctly the fan is more noisy than my MacBook Pro but much, much quieter then my Dell 510 laptop. The noise is very minimal and I doubt there is one that could be any quieter, though I haven't tried any others. A 15" MacBook Pro rests nicely on the non-skid pads. The unit can be used both on a desk or on a lap but the 'feet' in the back of the unit will become uncomfortable after prolonged usage on bare skin. It would be nice if you could attach a pad to them when using in your lap. works when it works Review date: 2008-11-11 Rating: 4 out of 10 I have owned my belkin laptop cooling stand for over a year now. It does a good job of cooling the computer but I have had many problems with it. First the power connection port became loose and was pushed inside the unit where it could not be accessed. I took apart the stand (remove 9-10 screws) and glued it in place and have had no other problems with that. The biggest problem is the cheap, noisy, fan in the unit. The standard 80mm fan 5v fan frequently (like 9 times a day) requires attention. At this point I am taking the unit apart every couple days to clean and service the fan so that it (1) works and (2) will run more quietly. Usually I can blow dirt or dust off the fan or jar it and it will function properly again for a short while. I have looked into replacing the fan but the shipping for a replacement fan costs 2-3 times as much as the fan and I refuse to pay that sort of shipping. I am currently looking for a cooling pad that has better quality parts. |
